Why the Hedgehog?
The “hedgehog’s dilemma” is a metaphor about connection and it comes from the tale of a group of hedgehogs who sought to be together to share heat during the winter, but they had to remain apart to avoid hurting each another with their spikes. Though they all shared the intention of a close relationship, they were unable to do so for reasons they couldn’t avoid. Recess seeks to solve our modern-day challenge of building community by creating a space where both parent and kid friendships can thrive.
Our Story
Recess was created by owners Chris and Jamie Rodgers out of a desire to be able to spend quality time with friends while their children played freely. Unsatisfied with the answers to their weekly question of “where should we take the kids?”, the idea was born to create a fun and safe atmosphere for little ones where parents could also get some much-needed adult time.
